Located only a few miles from Duchesne City, Fred Hayes State Park at Starvation is one of the area’s most popular destinations for boating, fishing, camping, swimming, and shoreline recreation. Its clear blue water, open landscape, beaches, and secluded coves make it an inviting place for a day trip, weekend getaway, or extended family vacation.

The reservoir covers approximately 3,500 surface acres and offers room for powerboats, personal watercraft, kayaks, paddleboards, and other water activities. The developed park area includes a concrete boat ramp, courtesy docks, campgrounds, restrooms, showers, picnic areas, and other visitor facilities.

Boating and Water Recreation

Starvation Reservoir is well known for its wide-open water and uncrowded coves. Boaters are encouraged to use the main launch area so vessels can be inspected for invasive mussels before entering the water. Always follow Utah boating laws, wear approved life jackets, and check current weather and water conditions before launching.

Fishing

Fishing is available from both the shore and the water. Starvation is especially known for its walleye fishing, but anglers may encounter several other fish species depending on the season and location. A valid Utah fishing license is required, and visitors should review current fishing limits and regulations before their trip.

Camping and Day Use

Visitors may choose from developed campgrounds with utilities and facilities or more primitive camping areas around the reservoir. Campsites, cabins, group areas, and certain boat slips may be available by reservation. Because fees, fire restrictions, water levels, and campground availability can change, visitors should review the Utah State Parks website before arriving.
